Out on the west side of town, I stopped at Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa for a little Christmas shopping last night. Expecting the insanity that ensues during the holiday season, I was surprised to find parking easy and the crowds more than manageable.

I can't say the negative press that plagued the mall three years ago ever kept me from going there, but last night reminded me of the hundreds of conversations about mall safety during the holidays for the last several years.

It's been two and half years since the mall instituted the parental escort policy requiring individuals to show ID and be accompanied by an adult during specific mall hours. Mayfair has increased mall security personnel, parking lot surveillance and now calls in the Wauwatosa police at the first sign of disturbance.

So, when shopping this holiday season, do you feel safe at Mayfair Mall? Has the fear associated with the muggings and attacks from a few years ago been assuaged by security measures? Would you still opt to shop elsewhere? Do you feel Bayshore Mall is safer?
